In Palm Coast, Walk Back in Time with the Florida Agricultural Museum
March 09, 2010

Folks from Florida’s past including Timucuans, Spaniards, Free Blacks of the Colonial era, the British, Seminoles, Confederate era Cow Calvary, moonshiners and women of the rural South will be represented at the fourth annual Walk Back in Time on March 20 and 21 hosted by the Florida Agricultural Museum.

At this event, craft demonstrations, recreational activities and food will be in abundance. Here's a video about last year's event to give you an idea. However, for many of us, the highlight of this family fun will be the music performances such as the one in this video, courtesy of Ben Wentworth.

Here's the lineup for this year's Walk Back in Time:

On Saturday, the program is:

  • 11 a.m. - Benjamin Dehart, fondly referred to as "The Cracker Tenor," performs
  • 1 p.m. -   Barn Dance! The Jackson Creek String Band joined by the Morse Family Band and Alice Milmoe calling

On Sunday, the lineup is:

  • 10 a.m. - Back In Tyme
  • 12 p.m. - David Stone
  • 2 p.m. -   Doug Spears, "Florida's Native Troubadour”

The Florida Agricultural Museum, located in Palm Coast, just 17 miles south of St. Augustine, presents eclectic programs that celebrate our state’s rural heritage. On April 2-3, the museum is hosting a 4X4 Jamboree. Horse enthusiasts might want to attend the second annual Obstacle Challenge on April 24, which is accompanied by the semi-regular monthly bluegrass music jam.

Last year, the museum debuted a new permanent exhibit on Florida’s early cattle industry.

On the site, visitors can also see the archaeological site of John Hewitt's water powered sawmill, a fully restored 1890s pioneer homestead, a dry goods store circa 1900, five restored buildings from a 1930s Depression-Era citrus business and a 5,000-square-foot dairy barn formerly belonging to Gov. Millard Caldwell.

Visit the Florida Agricultural Museum to chart your path to Florida’s rural history.
