An aqua-colored Thunderbird sometimes coasts by my home in South Florida. I love the Art Deco touches and gorgeous lines on this car. Muscle cars of yesteryear are becoming popular again but there’s nothing like the authenticity of the real thing.
At Rick Treworgy’s Muscle Car City in Punta Gorda, on Florida’s West Coast, you can see nearly 200 muscle cars and automobiles dating back to the 1920s, when the Ford Company helped revolutionize American society.
Row after row of beautifully restored classic cars are here in a 99,000-square-foot museum. The focus is General Motors' hot rods from the mid 1960s to early 70s, including the Pontiac GTOs, Chevy Corvettes, Oldsmobile Cutlass 442s, Chevelles, Camaros and high-horsepower Impalas. Additionally, Mr. Treworgy's managed to maintain and collect Corvettes from each year between 1954 and 1975 and several from each of the newer series between 1975 and 2006.
Pack the cars! Bring the kids! This family-friendly place in the Charlotte Harbor area is having two events next week.
On Friday, October 30, 2009, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the kids can get their Halloween candy and bounce around on a slide. This is an annual event at the museum, which hosts lots of programs for families and car enthusiasts. Check their calendar for updates.
On Saturday, October 31, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the museum is hosting its Annual Custom Car and Truck Show. The public is invited to participate with its own vehicles. Call 941-575-5959 for more information.
Wonder if I can get my neighbor to drive over there with me in her aqua Thunderbird… |

Loved this museum. My husband and I were in awe of all the cars. Just fabulous. If you are a car nut, you've got to see this place. You will not be disappointed.
