Spooky Rewards for Halloween at Boynton Beach's Award-Winning Schoolhouse Children's Museum
October 09, 2009
One of the treasures in the Boynton Beach area is the Schoolhouse Children’s Museum & Learning Center. To celebrate the season, they’re planning a haunted schoolhouse and spooky weekend carnivals.

On Friday, Oct. 16 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., the second floor of the Museum will be transformed into a haunted schoolhouse -- complete with creepy teachers, spooky students and a “horror”ible pop quiz. Do your homework and mark your calendars, ‘cause this is one school you don’t want to skip! The haunted house is perfect for kids age 7 or older who should be accompanied by an adult.

On Sat. and Sun., Oct. 17 and 18, little ones are welcome to join their families for the 3rd Annual (not-so) Spooky Schoolhouse Carnival. This event features an old-fashioned pumpkin patch (also known as a photo op for parents!), 20-foot slide, aquatic adventure, pony rides and a live ‘creepy creature’ display.

Let’s not forget the costume parade with treats for all participants, carnival games, face painting, bounce house and story times scattered throughout the day.

This event is a fundraiser for the museum, but it’s gently priced. Admission is $3 for anyone over age 2, and events costs range from $0.50 to $2.50. The educational programs and activities are part of its mission, which is to make Florida history come alive for children and families, who recently voted it the Best Children's Museum in South Florida in the Nickelodeon's Parents' Picks Contest.

By the way, the Museum is part of a rich history. It's in a 1913 schoolhouse listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

I can't wait to go to school and take photos at the pumpkin patch!
