Mission San Luis is inviting all Chihuahuas and their companions to join them for the annual “paseo” around the plaza. The event is scheduled from 10 A.M. to Noon and is a good opportunity to showcase your dogs and to introduce them to their cultural heritage at the same time. Costumes are optional. All dogs must be on leash. Unlike most dog shows, this event doesn’t require a pedigree. If it looks like a Chihuahua, walks like a Chihuahua, or thinks it is a Chihuahua, it is welcome at Mission San Luis. On Saturday, May 8, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. El Castillo de San Luis at Mission San Luis will welcome the St. Augustine Garrison Company of the Florida Historic Militia living history volunteers. Visitors will witness colorful pageantry, the firing of muskets and cannons, and learn about the world of Apalachee warriors and Spanish soldiers. This living history program will bring Florida's heritage to life as visitors focus on the lives and tasks of soldiers and militias at Spanish Florida’s western capital. All cultures are grateful for a good harvest, and the Apalachee and Spanish residents of Mission San Luis were no exception. "Giving Thanks" will be held at Mission San Luis on Friday, November 26 and Saturday, November 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can observe costumed interpreters smoking meat and fish on the barbacoa, and demonstrating the use of native and European plants from their gardens and fields.
