STATE PARK TO HOLD ANIMAL FOLKLORE & WISDOM WORKSHOPS --Series of workshops kicks off with Butterflies as the focus-- WHITE SPRINGS – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park will host a Butterfly workshop on Thursday, July 24, 2008. The workshop is the first installment of a series of Animal Wisdom workshops. Motivational speaker and hypnotherapist Khrys Kantarze will lead the first part of the workshop, focusing on folklore, animal experiences and guided imagery. Nest attendees will learn about the ancient cultures and what attributes some cultures gave to animals. Attendees can also join fabric artist, Sue Ruda to create a journal cover where they can express their inspirations as they participate in the workshop. Each workshop will have a different Art project geared toward any skill level. STATE PARK TO HOST POTTERY WORKSHOP --Park invites visitors to learn of pottery throwing-- WHITE SPRINGS –The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State park is hosting a workshop to learn the various techniques such as wedging, cylinders, bowls, lids, cup, bottles and glazing by throwing on the potter’s wheel. From centering the clay to trimming and finishing, students will learn all the essential steps to creating pottery on the wheel. The workshops will be taught by Jean Davidoff, master potter and craft demonstrator. Suitable for beginning artists, the class will take place on Tuesday nights beginning on August 26th and ending on October 14th. The cost will be $165.00 which will include 26 lbs of clay, glazes and the firing of 2,000 cubic inches of pottery in electric kilns. The class will be held at Craft Square from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. which will also include park admission.
