The once thriving pre-Columbian village of Ucita, located at the mouth of the Little Manatee River in Ruskin, Florida, was reduced to just a footnote in history after the Spanish Conquistadors landed on the shores nearly 500 years ago. The Friends of Ucita, a group dedicated to rediscovering, preserving and sharing with future generations the life-skills of the area’s vanished native people, offer a simulated archaeological dig at the Camp Bayou Outdoor Learning Center on the fourth Saturday each month at 9:30 a.m. Program participants are assigned a grid, dig to find potsherds, and then put their 'artifact' back together. For additional information, contact fred@southshoretampabay.com. Camp Bayou is located 3 miles south of State Road 674 at the end of 24th St. SE in Ruskin and is operated as a partnership between the non-profit Ruskin Community Development Foundation, Inc. and Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department. For more information, contact Dolly Cummings at (813)641-8545 or dolly@campbayou.org. Additional information can be found by visiting www.campbayou.org or the Camp Bayou Nature Notes blog at http://campbayou.blogspot.com/.

MacGillivray Freeman Films, producers of the blockbuster giant-screen hit Everest, will make a splash in the IMAX Dome Theatre with the opening of Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk. Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk tells an engaging story of how ordinary people can make a difference for our planet—a portion of which researchers say could face life-threatening water shortages by the year 2050. During the film, the vital urgency for people around the world to address the water crisis is brought to light as explorers make their way down the Colorado River, itself a prime example of a mighty and hallowed river that has been altered by excess and inefficient use. The Colorado once flowed freely across 1,400 miles, from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, but today no longer reaches the sea. The river, which is a source of water and power to 25 million Americans, is literally shrinking due to a severe drought cycle now facing the American Southwest. General Admission Includes: MOSI, Kids In Charge, and one standard IMAX film Adults 13-59 $20.95 Seniors 60+ $18.95 Child 2-12 $16.95

Experience the phenomenon of Disney’s The Lion King when Tampa’s best-loved musical returns to TBPAC’s Carol Morsani Hall stage in May 2008. Visually stunning, technically astounding and with a musical score like none you’ve ever heard. Giraffes strut, birds swoop, gazelles leap. As the entire savannah comes to life and as the music soars, Pride Rock slowly emerges from the mist. See the Tony Award-winning Broadway sensation that Newsweek calls "a landmark event in entertainment." The New York Times says, "There is simply nothing else like it." Marvel at the breathtaking spectacle of animals brought to life by a cast of more than 40 actors. Wonder at the inspiration of award-winning director Julie Taymor, who created visual images for this show that you’ll remember forever. Thrill to the pulsating rhythms of the African Pridelands and an unforgettable score including Elton John and Tim Rice’s Oscar-winning song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life."
