Bok Tower Gardens will host the Boktoberfest Plant Sale on October 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event in Lake Wales will feature live music, German food, beer and fun for the whole family including tree climbing, face painting, butterfly house tours and more. Gardens' members will have first choice to purchase plants from 8 to 9 a.m. Some of the plants for sale will include orchids, palms, trees, tropical fruits, Florida natives, ferns, bamboo, roses, heliconias, bromeliads, tillandsia air plants and water lilies. Education will be provided by Master Gardeners, plant societies, garden clubs and the UF-IFAS Extension Service including Tom MacCubbin, Florida's foremost expert on lawn and garden issues. Bok Tower Gardens’ annual Sunset & Symphony concert November 6 at 6 p.m. The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the Singing Tower carillon will perform pops, light classics, Broadway hits and patriotic favorites. Bring a picnic and your family to experience a breathtaking sunset and magical starry night on one of peninsular Florida’s highest point. Tickets are $12 for members and $15 for the general public. The day of concert tickets are $20 and children under 5 are free. Call 863-734-1222 for tickets and more information. Event gates open at 3:30 p.m. The Instrument Petting Zoo will begin at 4:30 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, insect repellent and flashlights. Handicapped parking and shuttle service will be available. Flambeaux will illuminate the Olmsted-designed pathways leading up to the 205-foot-tall Singing Tower that houses one of the world’s great carillons. Preordered boxed picnic selections are available from the Blue Palmetto Café. Chicken and yellow rice, hot dogs, snacks and beverages will be available for sale at the Hilltop Café from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. Beer, wine and champagne will be available through intermission. The Gift Shop and Visitor Center will remain open until after the concert.
