Ideas for a Fabulous Florida Wedding Celebration

By: Terry Ward

From laid-back beachy affairs to traditional celebrations in historic surrounds, Florida offers brides and grooms endless venues for staging the perfect wedding day. And with so many options, picking the place is bound to be your biggest conundrum. Wondering where to start when planning a Florida wedding? Pull out a map of the state and decide on a region first, to narrow things down. Then think about whether you want a sand-in-the-toes beachy eventtropical wedding or high-style urban-resort vibe for your wedding day. A great event is all in the details, but with Florida's constants (great weather and beautiful backdrops, for starters), there are a few things you won't have to worry about at all. Choose your own wedding adventure, and remember that, like life, the joy in planning your big day is in the journey toward it, too:

If you want a beachy destination wedding with walking-distance attractions and a small town vibe:

Plan your big day at One Ocean Resort in the laid-back and atmospheric North Florida beach town of Atlantic Beach. You can get married right on the sand, then choose from a fancy dinner at the resort itself, or a casual affair at one of the great casual eateries in Atlantic Beach or nearby Neptune Beach. Plenty of bars in this area, too, to make sure the party has somewhere to continue once the official event is over. Best part? Your guests can book rooms at One Ocean Resort and leave their cars for the weekend, as everything from the beach to restaurants and shops are within walking distance.

To feel like a fairytale couple surrounded by historic grandeur in an iconic Florida setting:

Absolutely nowhere does old school Florida glamour like The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida's most storied resort. Couples can opt to say their vows everywhere from the grassy front lawn overlooking the namesake rolling sea to one of the historic ballrooms with gilded ceilings and elaborate wall murals.

For an intimate, exotic escape, my vote goes to the Little Palm Island Resort & Spa. When I was visiting a few months ago, I saw no less than three weddings take place around the tiny island over a couple of days. They were all intimate affairs, with just a few friends and family members present and the bride and groom saying their vows on a narrow spit of sand surrounded by water at low tide. So very romantic and beautiful! Of course, you can rent out the entire island for your wedding, too. Serious bucks.

The list goes on and on. Here are just a few more Florida venues that just scream out "Marry Me!!" with amenities such as decadent catering, onsite wedding planners and spectacular views:

The Ritz-Carlton, Naples

The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island

The Don CeSar in St. Pete Beach

Waldorf-Astoria Orlando

Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Orlando

Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada, The Florida Keys

WaterColor Inn & Resort

Vero Beach Hotel & Spa

The Shores Resort & Spa

May your big day be the very best ever!
