Explore Pensacola History -- Gravestones of Pensacola: A Good Read | October 24 2013

Historic cemeteries are open air museums chronicling the history of their communities, but names and dates carved in stone are just the beginning of a good “read” for researchers. Margo Stringfield (UWF Archaeology Institute) will explain how funerary architecture tells the area’s history by revealing changing settlement and trade patterns, socio-economic conditions, fashions, technologies, and epidemiology. By reading tombstones, we can learn how past generations lived, not just how they died.
