Tap Into Your History | September 20 2013

Join us at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum for a one-of-a-kind beer tasting with Dr. Patrick McGovern, the Beer Archaeologist.Dr. McGovern's research helped identify ingredients used to create ancient, 9,000 year-old "extreme" beverages once consumed by our ancestors. Guided by his findings, Dr. McGovern worked in collaboration with Dogfish Head Brewery to recreate a trio of ancient ales. Visitors will be able to meet and greet Dr. McGovern on Saturday, September 21st as part of the lighthouse's Sea Your History Weekend series. For an extra $5, guests can sample Dr. McGovern's beers at a private gathering in the museum gallery at 5:00 p.m.Also on display for the special weekend will be an ancient brass keg tap, just recovered from the ocean floor last month by the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program divers excavating a 1782 British shipwreck off the St. Augustine coast.See the tap, meet Dr. McGovern and explore Florida's maritime history at the St. Augustine Lighthouse.
