10 Scenes Along Windows To Gulf Waters Scenic Highway
By Luis Santana for VISIT FLORIDA
For 70 miles, the Windows to the Gulf Coast Waters Scenic Highway travels U.S. 41 from the Manatee/Hillsborough County to the Sarasota/Charlotte County line. The road on the Gulf Coast opened in 1928, thanks to Barron Gift Collier who built it to get access to the wealth of Miami and Tamiami Trail. Drivers go from the 8,000-acre wilderness of the Myakka State Forest to the Ringling Museum with its mansion and 21 galleries of internationally recognized European and American art by such artists as Rubens and Van Dyck.
