overview

Description:

The tea-colored water of Fisheating Creek meanders along banks lined with cypress and oaks where paddlers will see numerous alligators and a wide variety of bird species around every bend.  Fisheating Creek Outpost offers canoe/kayak rental and shuttle service at the campground off US 27 in Palmdale. There is also an improved ramp available for launching your own boat. Access to the headwaters of the Creek is provided by the outfitter who offers two drop-off points:  Burnt Bridge, a put-in located 8 miles upstream from the campground or Ingram Crossing, and 16 miles upstream and recommended for advanced paddlers or for those looking for an overnight trip. You can paddle upstream from the Fisheating Creek Campground but note the stream becomes narrower and faster the further you go upstream.

Water levels in the creek vary widely with rainfall so it is best to check current conditions at U.S. Geological Service - Water Information or outfitter’s website before planning your paddling trip. To canoe with minimal portages you'll need about 2 feet of water; for kayaking, 1.5 feet. You can paddle when the water level is less than this but you may have to get out of your boat and portage at several spots along the creek.
