Whether choosing the Gulf or bay side, this segment provides paddlers with an opportunity to view a wide variety of animal and plant life, scenic beaches and local parks. On the journey through Sarasota Bay and numerous other smaller bays, be sure to look for bottlenose dolphins and manatee.
Eight miles to the south from South Lido Beach Park lay Turtle Beach Park, which has boat ramps, picnic shelters and camping sites. Continuing south from Turtle Beach and past Bird Keys and Casey Key is Oscar Scherer State Park. Starting bright and early from Oscar Scherer, the next stretch takes you on an Intracoastal Waterway route past Venice to Weston's Resort adjacent to Stump Pass Beach State Park.
