Florida State Parks Releases New Smartphone App

Like Florida State Parks? Well, there's an app for that. Go ahead and download the new official Florida State Parks smartphone app (available for both iOS and Android devices) and have all the information needed for your next visit at your fingertips.

Wait, it gets better. When you download the Florida State Parks app, you get free entry to a park of your choice (Skyway Fishing Pier in St. Petersburg not included) on Feb. 18. Just show the app on your phone to the ranger at the gate, and in you go. Not too bad, eh?

With the app you can find a Florida State Park near you by GPS, plus lots of detailed information on history, amenities, recreation opportunities and upcoming events. For me, this app totally changes how I locate and get information about parks. Since I'm always on the road, I can see which parks I'm close to without having to break out a paper guide or my laptop. Sweet.

The app was created through a partnership with ParksByNatureNetwork and PocketRanger.com, and also features built-in trail distance recording. You can even share your data with friends and share photos on social media. Additional features will be available in the coming months, so make sure to follow Florida State Parks on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

Download the app now by searching for "Official Florida State Parks" on iTunes or the Android Market. You can also view park information on your mobile device by visiting http://fl.pocketranger.com.
