I can almost see it now - mist rising off the clear spring water, birds and other wildlife signaling the start of the day. Combine that with the gentle dip of a canoe paddle, and that just seems like perfection.
On Feb. 23, take part in a ranger-led sunrise canoe trip on the Ichetucknee River. Don't worry about bringing your own paddling gear, everything is provided by the park. Since it wil be early in the morning, bring a flashlight to assist in launching your canoe.
This is a free trip with regular park admission ($5), and participants will meet at the North Entrance at 6:30 a.m. The trip lasts a couple of hours, launching as close to sunrise as possible, and taking out at the south end of the park. The trip should conclude around 9:30 a.m.
Ichetucknee Springs is located near Fort White in Columbia County. To reserve a space on the trip, call the park at (386) 497-4690. For more information, visit www.floridastateparks.org/ichetuckneesprings.
