There's a saying: "A day at the lake is worth a month in town."
But why choose when you can have both? Smack-dab in downtown Orlando is Lake Eola (pronounced ee-OH-la), a 1-mile-around oasis from city life. To take advantage of the greenspace, consider my top five ways to enjoy Lake Eola Park. Just be sure to bring change for the street parking meters.
) Play awhile: What's a park without a playground? Set the kids free so they can burn off some steam.
2) Market value: Every legit city boasts a weekend farmer's market with fresh produce and live entertainment. The Downtown Orlando Farmer's Market takes place at Lake Eola Park every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pets are welcome!
3) Show time: For affordable entertainment, check out the park's Walt Disney Amphitheatre. From concerts to theater performances, find the schedule here.
4) Swan song: No trip to Lake Eola would be complete without a ride on the park's iconic swan paddle boats. Rent one for $15 per half hour.
5) Cafe: Thirty minutes of paddling sure does work up an appetite. Grab a bite at Relax Grill. The casual lakeside eatery serves lunch and dinner.
