Nature in a Minute: Hog Plum

Have you been out in the woods lately? There are so many things in bloom! On a recent hike in the Withlacoochee State Forest, I came across a large group of hog plum loaded with incredible white flowers. The bees were loving it.

And yes, you can eat the fruit. A lot of folks make hog plum jelly, which is really tasty. Also, if you are looking to attract pollinators to your yard, plant some hog plum – the bees and butterflies will thank you.

If you spot anything cool in the woods, feel free to share your wildlife and nature photos on the VISIT FLORIDA Outdoors and Nature Facebook page – see you later!
