After being grounded by the FAA for a regulatory issue the ultralight aircraft leading the annual Whooping crane migration to Florida will be returning to the skies. Yep the Whooping cranes are on the way!
Here in Florida we should expect the Whooping cranes at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge some time next week. The flyover event will be held at San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park so be on the lookout for more information regarding the exact date of the event. For folks further south in the state a second group of Whooping cranes take up winter residence at Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge in Citrus County. The flyover event for this area is held at the Marion County – Dunnellon Airport.
