Florida from a Kayak: Which is the Coolest Adventure?

Up to the tips of your mouse ears in theme parks?

If you’re yearning for a taste of Florida like it used to be, a place to soak up some sunshine and reconnect with nature, I have an adventure with your paddles written all over it.

Last week, I drove out to Jones Cypress Cove Marina (near Clermont, about an hour west of Orlando), to explore the tea-colored, shallow waters of the Palatlakaha with Florida from a Kayak. After owner/operator Mary showed me the basics of kayaking, and we pushed out into the lake.

We watched Ospreys guarding their nest and watched vultures ride the thermals overhead. We listened to the sound of our paddles pulling across the water and the wind rustling the trees. We discussed nothing and everything and pretty much had the entire world’s problems solved by the time we returned to the Marina.

And the trip I enjoyed is just the tip of the sandbar.

You can enjoy a picnic on the Palatlakaha, see the moon over Lake Minnehaha, and explore destinations across the state – there’s sure to be a paddling adventure that will float your boat!

Take a peek at the video to see which Mary’s favorite is!
