Trail Tuesday: Paddle Lee County's Great Calusa Blueway

Coastal paddlers and eco-explorers, this is where you need to be! Located in Lee County, the Great Calusa Blueway is one of Florida's premiere kayaking and canoeing destinations, offering terrific paddling opportunities for first-timers and seasoned pros alike.

The Great Calusa Blueway is 190 miles in length, with three sections that cover distinct regions of the Gulf of Mexico. Wildlife and birding opportunities in this area are some of the best in the state, making the trail a favorite for nature photographers. History buffs, you are also in luck: On the Great Calusa Blueway, you'll travel the same southwest Florida waters dominated by the Calusa centuries ago.

Don't miss the Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival, which is held on Nov. 3-6. Start planning to attend the festival now, and I'll make sure to blog more about it as the date gets a little closer. In the meantime, check out the video from the 2009 festival! I had a blast, and look forward to attending again this year!
