Lace up your sneakers, grab your saddle, and start peddling!
Umm, or something like that.
When the 5th Annual Ride-Roll-Run Relay sprints into Ocala (Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, Land Bridge Trailhead, 11100 SW 16th Ave.) on March 26, 2011, it promises a forest-full of fun for runners, equestrians and bikers. This friendly trail race features teams of three members (one member of each discipline) competing for prizes and bragging rights.
While the distances aren’t daunting - approximately 7 miles on horseback, 10 miles on mountain bikes, and 3.5 trail running - remember that it’s a trail race. Contestants will encounter knee-knocking trees, horrific hills and loads of logs - plus long stretches of flat, gentle trail.
If you’re considering entering, I’ve got one more reason you should go for it. Relay proceeds benefit the Florida Greenways and Trail Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, which helps maintain, enhance and expand public access to Florida’s recreation and conservation lands, including the Cross Florida Greenway.
