What would a trip to Florida Caverns State Park be without taking the cave tour? I suppose it would be just fine, seeing as how there are plenty of other things that you can do to pass the time, but the real highlight of a visit to the park is the guided tour of the underground dry caverns -- the only tour of its type in Florida. You won't be disappointed - this 45-minute walk features formations that are about 38 million years old! Stunning stalagmites, stalactites, rimstone pools (one is shaped like South America), and soda straws are just a few types of other-worldly creations in the caves. Another cool thing about the cave tour on a hot summer day -- the temperature stays about 65 degrees naturally, so take a break and beat the heat!
Just so you know, cave tours are not available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On those days, take a stroll on the Bluff Trail that's located at the Visitor Center parking lot. Huge limestone karst formations and several above ground caves make great places to explore along your walk.
In the video you'll see Kelly Banta, Park Services Specialist as she leads us along on the tour. If you visit, look for Kelly and give her a big high-five for all the hard work she does at Florida Caverns State Park!
