Before I start heading back toward Northwest Florida, I'm going to show you a few really cool summer places that you just have to visit. I've been coming to Rainbow Springs State Park for quite a few years, and since it is pretty close to home, this is my summer tubing spot.
Back in the 1930's, Rainbow Springs was one of Florida's original tourist attractions complete with unique submarine-style boats that gave visitors an underwater view of the springs. A later park addition, the Leaf Ride, was a monorail with leaf shaped cars that took folks around the property at tree level. Sadly, the park closed, but was reopened in the 1990's as a state park.
For a Monday, Rainbow Springs State Park was busy! The swimming area in the headsprings was full of people, and there were plenty of paddlers on the water. For tubers and campers, there is another entrance to those areas, and tubing is not allowed in the headsprings.
If you are near Marion County, make sure and stop by Rainbow Springs State Park!
