Sanibel Shell Museum Movie

ADD TO FAVORITES

Thanks to a little scientist-volunteer at the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum in Sanibel, I learned that a fighting conch has teeth on its tongue. Lots of teeth.

The barrier island of Sanibel is legendary for shelling, and it makes a particularly apt home for the museum, a renowned, impressive and incredibly engaging facility. It’s staffed by some of the friendliest, most knowledgeable folks on the planet - including the youngster on this video, who explained how this fighting conch eats, while it demonstrated its kicking power!

If you’ve never been to Sanibel Island, you’re missing out. Besides boasting bountiful shelling, it’s a nature lovers’ paradise, home to the Ding Darling Preserve. It also boasts an abundance of quirky shops and restaurants – truly, one of my favorite Sunshine State haunts.
