Kissimmee Valley Farmer's Market

    By Gary McKechnie

There’s been a growing trend to buy local, buy organic, and buy foods that go straight from farm to table.

Nearly every Saturday I head to Renninger’s Twin Markets in Mount Dora where, mingled in among the antiques, is an amazing array of produce. It’s where I stock up for the week.

I just learned of Kissimmee Valley Farmer's Market (and I’m sure there are many, many others) in downtown Kissimmee. It’s important to remember that before Disney and the other theme parks arrived at Kissimmee’s doorstep, this and surrounding areas revolved around cattle ranching and farming.

That’s why it’s nice to know that late on Tuesday afternoons you can head downtown to the Kissimmee Valley Farmer's Market at Broadway and Dakin and pick up farm-fresh produce, home-baked and hand-crafted items.

It’s a venture of the Kissimmee Main Street Program – and a return to a time when local residents supported local growers.
