St. Joseph State Park Named America's Best State Park!
If you hang around a tourism convention you’ll meet a lot of new people and learn a lot of new things.
Yesterday I met Jack Kerigan who told me about an off the beaten path destination that I had passed a few times. I never stopped long enough to see it but I will next time. Why? Because Jack told me that America’s Best Online ranked St. Joseph Peninsula State Park #1 among state parks. But not just in Florida.
In the entire nation!
If you haven’t been here yourself the park is located in Gulf County near Cape San Blas roughly midway between Apalachicola and Panama City. By the way this isn’t the first time the park came out on top. A decade ago Dr. Stephen Leatherman (aka “Dr. Beach”) named the park and its beaches best in America.
What’s not to love? The 2 516-acre park has striking dune formations miles of white sand beaches and deep forests – and it’s all bordered by the tranquil waters of St. Joseph Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. You can camp here park your RV launch a boat go fishing biking hiking kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding.
Florida’s state parks are a great idea and it looks like St. Joseph Peninsula State Park is one of the greatest. If you plan to stay the night visit Reserve America and if you’d like to learn more about Gulf County visit the Gulf County Tourist Development Council. You can even do it the old-fashioned way by calling (850) 229-7800.
It's number one on my itinerary.
