Hike back in time on this short loop that weaves through the pines surrounding the Olustee Battlefield. Take a moment to check out the interpretative signage along the way explaining the scene during the battle in 1864.
Located near Lake City, Olustee Battlefield became a state park in 1949. The location also is Florida's first state monument, designated in 1909.
By the Numbers
The Olustee Battlefield Trail is a short loop (1.1 miles) that is a must-do for history buffs and nature lovers alike. Give this trail about an hour's time. The linear Florida National Scenic Trail passes through the park so if you'd like to extend your hike, set out for a few hours in either direction.
What to Bring
The trail primarily passes through a pine forest, providing decent shade. Do bring along sunblock just in case and wear clothing appropriate for the weather. There are restrooms a museum and water fountains available in the park. A bottle of water is always good to have, too.
