Nature Trails in Florida: Willow Pond Nature Trail, Fort Clinch State Park

    By Kevin Mims

Located inside Fort Clinch State Park, the Willow Pond Nature Trail is considered one of the best wildlife viewing spots in the area. The trail is situated around a series of coastal depression ponds that was once used as a borrow pit by the Civilian Conservation Corps to construct the road through the park.

    By the Numbers

Two loops make up the Willow Pond Nature Trail. For a 25-minute walk take the Willow Pond Trail. A longer 45-minute loop can be done by doing the Magnolia Loop. Plan a little more time if you are viewing wildlife.

    What to Bring

For this walk make sure to bring binoculars. Wildlife viewing is excellent here. Insects did not seem to be a problem. The walk is shady but do bring water and dress appropriately for the season.
