It's always good to be able to take a long walk in the woods and enjoy the Florida trails but that's not always possible. When you're in a crunch for time or just need a quick fix sometimes a quick stroll along a boardwalk can do wonders.

Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is a massive property but there's another way to get a glimpse into the incredible diversity and beauty of the place. Located on right on US 41 (Tamiami Trail) the Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk is a 2 000-foot path where you'll see rare wild royal palms massive strangler figs pond apple huge ferns and native orchids. Of course that's just a few of the wonders along the boardwalk – make sure to look for herons Wood storks alligators and other wading birds in the small pond at the end.

This Florida state park is a beautiful place. To me the air feels and smells cleaner. It's a window into another world that few people have the opportunity to experience. Take advantage of this spot the next time you're traveling through the area.

There's no official admission fee to enter but a $3 donation for adults is recommended and helps the Friends of the Fakahatchee maintain the Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk.
