Scenic Doe Lake Campground in the Ocala National Forest

    By Kevin Mims

Here's a place I haven't visited in several years - Doe Lake Campground in the Ocala National Forest. If you are a fan of scenic campgrounds, then camping in Doe Lake is definitely something you need to check out.

It's a little tough to find, and is over on the Umatilla side of the forest. The main building there at the campground is a 1930's Civilian Conservation Corps structure, and is one of the coolest recreation/meeting halls I've come across. Love the woodwork in this place.

Currently, the Doe Lake campground is for group camping only, so keep that in mind. I was there visiting for the day at a friend's wedding and a Florida Trail New Year's campout. Reservations are required, and it's $150 to rent the hall and campground. Not too bad if you are looking for a group gathering to go camping in Florida.
