A Full Outdoor Experience at Florida Caverns State Park

    By Kevin Mims

Friends, I have to tell you -- my latest state park trip was fantastic! I recently spent a few days camping in Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna, and it was by far my favorite trip so far this year.

When I camp out, a lot of times I find myself just hanging out at the campsite. Not this time. I was eager to explore the park from top to bottom -- I biked, paddled, geocached, and took the cave tour. If you haven't been to Florida Caverns State Park, you really should.

The whole place has a sort of an Appalachian foothills feel to it -- there's some elevation, reddish-brown clay, huge cedar and black walnut trees. If you've been driving all the way up to North Georgia to camp, check out Florida Caverns State Park instead. It feels pretty much the same, and you've got cool freshwater springs to enjoy -- plus the Chipola River is a paddler's dream. The park even has a 9-hole course.
