5 Golf Buddy Courses in Florida

    By Tim McDonald

For northerners, there's a time of year when you and your golf buddies are out on the course, and a hard, chill wind cuts to the bone.

After walking off No. 18 and into the clubhouse to get a hot drink, you are all thinking the same thing and finally it bursts into words: Florida buddy trip.

I knew it! I can read your minds! And so, my frozen northern friends, here are my top-5 Florida golf buddy courses:

    Doral Golf Resort and Spa

You have the famous Blue Monster, of course, but Doral has four other excellent courses, particularly the Great White. Plus, you're only about 15 minutes to South Beach, which is chock-full of gorgeous, um, architecture. Look around you now: How many bikinis do you see? That will change, my friend.

    Orange County National

This is for the hard-core golf group. You step out of your room and onto a world-class practice facility or one of two superb courses. Not much else to do but golf and eat. Your wives and girlfriends will give this buddy trip their stamp of approval.

    TPC Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort

Yes, you have the world-class Stadium course right down the street, but you also have all those other great Ponte Vedra Beach and Sandestin Beach and Golf Resort

A mammoth resort with its own nightlife, as well as four excellent golf buddy courses. Also, some of the best beaches in Florida, and you're not that far from Panama City Beach and wild nights on the Gulf. Tell your wives you're going to Orange County National.

    Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club

Check into your villa and forget about your car for the duration of your stay; they'll whisk you to the course of your choosing every day. Four courses to keep you interested, including the exceptional Copperhead and Island layouts. Also, a great steakhouse, Packards. Fairly close to Tampa nightlife.
