Snooty the Manatee Turns 65

Snooty the Manatee Turns 65 at Bradenton's South Florida Museum

    By James Branaman

When Snooty the Manatee turned 65, his hosts at the South Florida Museum in Bradenton threw him a birthday party. Long the oldest manatee known to anyone, every one of Snooty's birthday parties is a special occasion. He's received cards and letters from well-wishers across the country from people who know him from his famous Snootycam (Look for a link at southfloridamuseum.org/theaquarium, if you haven't already visited), and visitors come from hours around to spend a few minutes with him. But there's serious research being done here, too. Snooty's long lifespan is helping experts study what can be done to help manatees up and down Florida's coast.
