To Fly: Aviation Renovation

Now - August 01, 2020
The highlight of the exhibit space will be a new state-of-the art 7D capsule theater that will take visitors on an exhilarating flight through the sky. This new exhibit experience will use a 3D aviation film, moving seats, and multi-sensory effects to create an unforgettable, educational, and exciting experience. The new look will take shape gradually between August and November and the hall will remain open during this time. The new Simulation Theater will be installed in early December and ready for take off on December 19, 2014. Made possible by a generous gift from the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust.

Friends of MODS Presents Superhero Soiree

The Museum of Discovery and Science’s auxiliary group, Friends of MODS, along with Club 2-1-1, will host “Superhero Soiree” on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 6 p.m. featuring a screening of Marvel Studios production of Avengers: Age of Ultron: An IMAX ® 3D Experience. The price of admission to Superhero Soiree at the Museum includes access to the reception, complete with open bar and themed ‘superhero’ cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a special silent auction, DJ, raffle prizes, plus entry to the AutoNation IMAX 3D Theater! Summer Time Moonlight Sea Turtle Walks

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. June 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 2015 July 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 2015 The Museum of Discovery and Science invites the whole family to participate in an evening of sea turtle discovery this summer. Once again, the annual evening Turtle Walks will occur in June and July. Visitors will enjoy an entire evening of sea turtle exploration and identification while uncovering the natural history and myths of turtles. Nature permitting, participants will have a chance to watch a 300 pound Loggerhead sea turtle venture out of the ocean to lay her eggs. A female loggerhead sea turtle may t ...Read More>> avel thousands of miles to return to the beach where she hatched as a baby to lay her own eggs as an adult. At 9:00 p.m., the adventure begins at the Museum of Discovery and Science with an informative hands-on session about turtles (land, fresh water and salt water) with an expanded focus on sea turtles. Guests will also meet the Museum’s Ambassador Loggerhead sea turtle who is almost one year old. Once it reaches an appropriate size it will be released in the ocean. Museum staff will provide answers to questions about nesting, threats and conservation before proceeding to the beach. The adventure continues to Fort Lauderdale beach where Museum expert guides lead guests to the sea turtle’s nesting grounds to look for amazing sea turtles. We cannot guarantee a sea turtle will be spotted on every walk but when it does happen it is a natural wonder that no one will ever forget. Guests should be prepared to walk approximately one to two miles, and provide their own transportation and snacks. Participants must be 9 years of age or older.
