Estevanico was a Moroccan slave and member of the Narvaez Expedition in 1528 and acted as a guide on Fray Marcos de Niza's expedition to find the Seven Cities of Gold in 1539. Estevanico became the first person from Africa known to have set foot in the present continental United States.
The Perdido Key Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, in coordination with the African American Chamber, The DeVilliers Cultural Heritage Museum and other community groups, will produce this 2-day festival that will celebrate diversity and teach about Estevanico's journey of discovery, through art, food and music!
Opening and closing ceremonies and a hands-on art gallery for children will also highlight the two-day festival. 900 S. Palafox in downtown Pensacola. Event hours are 11am-7pm on Saturday and 11am-4pm on Sunday. FREE admission.
