The Kirby Family Farm is home to Florida's largest private railroad after Mr. Kirby found an abandoned locomotive and train in the woods not far from the farm. After some serious negotiations with Mrs. Kirby it was agreed he could attempt to save the old locomotive so long as Mrs. Kirby could build an educational center using the centerpiece of the farm to showcase it all. Today, not only is #19 alive and well, she is one of only three locomotives just like her still in operation and you can climb aboard and experience the journey of the Kirby Family's Railroad!
Currently the farm is opened by appointment for field trips, family outings, special occasions, and corporate events and picnics. We also have great special events periodically throughout the year to help the development of this non-profit farm. Go back in time and ride the rails through the camps at the Nature Coast Civil War Reenactment in March. Hop on over and see the World's Largest Annual Easter Egg hunt in the Spring. In the Fall get ready for the not so scary "Lost Railroad". You'll search through the old Kirby Corn Patch and see if you can discover the Lost Railroad! Some say the most exciting time of the year is Christmas on the farm when you can ride through THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS of lights aboard the Kirby's Historical Train! Get your passes early for the Christmas Express beginning Thanksgiving weekend as many nights of the Christmas Express do Sell-Out. Remember, these special events help offset the development cost of the educational mission. You never know what fun and education is waiting at the Kirby Family Farm!
