overview

Description:

Considered to be home to "Florida's First Beaches," the Pensacola Bay Area, which encompasses Pensacola Beach to Perdido Key, is located along the state's westernmost stretch on the Gulf of Mexico and offers visitors the best of both worlds: miles of award-winning sugar-white beaches alongside a town rich with history, culture and Southern hospitality. Known as the "City of Five Flags," Pensacola was America's first settlement, having been discovered by Spanish explorers in 1559. The area's rich multicultural history is apparent in its fascinating attractions, which include archaeological sites, historic villages, a ballet, symphony, opera, trails, forts and museums, including the Pensacola Lighthouse and Museum and the National Naval Aviation Museum, aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola, which is home to the Blue Angels. Additionally, the Pensacola Bay Area provides an array of attractions suitable for outdoor explorers, including the nation's longest stretch of protected seashore and the world's largest artificial reef, as well as countless opportunities for fishing, diving, golfing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing. Well known for its authentic restaurants and Pensacola Celebrity Chefs, foodies will also find something to suit their palettes in the Pensacola Bay Area, thanks to fresh Gulf Coast cuisine. From Pensacola Beach to Perdido Key, families, couples, friends, foodies, adventure-seekers and beachcombers alike will find there's lots to discover in the Pensacola Bay Area. It's no surprise we've been loved by explorers since 1559.
