Over 40,000 people gather on Las Olas Boulevard each year to celebrate the unofficial start to the winter season. The free St. Patrick's Parade and Festival has quickly grown into one of Fort Lauderdale's largest and most anticipated events, attracting spectators to the streets of downtown for a one-of-a-kind celebration of all things Irish. This year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever, highlighted by a colorful parade, live music, great food and outstanding entertainment.
Seminole Tribe of Florida will present a reenactment of the Second Seminole War at the Big Cypress Shootout at Billie Swamp Safari located between Fort Lauderdale and Naples, on the Big Cypress Reservation just north of I-75 (Alligator Alley) Exit 49. TICKETS: $10 adults, $6 children 12 and under.
The battle reenactments honor the Seminole’s struggle and sacrifice to remain in their homeland and will feature authentic weapons, soldier and warrior attire and tactics typical of the Second Seminole War.
The three-day event will also include music, Seminole food, Seminole and pioneer artisans, tomahawk throws, primitive archery competition, Se
inole Stomp Dancing, authentic Seminole and soldier camps, venomous snake shows and alligator wrestling. “Period settlers” from around the country will hew wood, iron and silver crafts and depict trading techniques from the Seminole war era. Musical guests include: Okefenokee Joe, Benjamin Dehart (The Cracker Tenor) and Tim Charron.

The Florida Derby is an American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old horses held annually at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida on the Saturday closest to the end of March or the first of April. Added to the racing schedule in 1952, the Grade 1 race is run at 1⅛ miles on the dirt for a purse currently set at $1 Million.
Winners of the Florida Derby usually go on to compete in the Kentucky Derby.
