A unique collaboration of arts and entertainment organizations located along the New River in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, Riverwalk A&E District’s partners include Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Florida Grand Opera , Fort Lauderdale History Center, Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, Historic Stranahan House Museum, and its newest partner, Bonnet House Museum & Gardens. Broward Center for the Performing Arts, a world-class performance venue, offers entertainment from the best of Broadway, to internationally-renowned classical music, to comedy including the original musical comedy revue Laffing Matterz. Celebrating its 72nd year of continuous performances, Florida Grand Opera is featuring an array of stunning operas during the 2012-2013 season including La bohème, The Magic Flute, La sonnambula, and La traviata. Fort Lauderdale History Center is a wonderful place to learn about Fort Lauderdale’s progress from pioneer times through today, and offers a variety of lectures, events, programs and more. Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale is home to an internationally renowned collection of modern and contemporary art. Built in 1901, the Historic Stranahan House Museum served first as a trading post for pioneers and Indians, then as a hotel/eatery for those who settled on the New River. On Sunday evenings, Stranahan House and Water Taxi present a fascinating River Ghost Tour, including a Stranahan House visit and New River boat ride. Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, a historic 1920 plantation-style waterfront home situated on 35 acres of natural preserve, features whimsical art and architecture and allows visitors to experience what Fort Lauderdale must have been like 100 years ago. Bonnet House offers educational programs on history, art, ecology, horticulture, music and historic preservation for people of all ages throughout the year. Riverwalk A&E District works in cooperation with Broward County’s Cultural Division and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.
