Description:

Constructed in 1856, the May-Stringer House was the postwar residence of Frank E. Saxon who served in the 'Hernando Wildcats' unit of the 3rd Florida Infantry and was badly wounded at the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky in October 1862. Today, the house is the home of the Hernando Heritage Museum, which contains over 11,000 Hernando County artifacts. Artifacts in the museum's 'War Room' include items from the Civil War. The Hernando Historical Museum Association sponsors the annual Civil War Brooksville Raid Reenactment on the third weekend of January, one of the largest such events in Florida.
