Gainesville is known for its winning sport teams, culture and nature. The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department hosts a variety of activities that make a visit to Gainesville exciting. The City prides itself on its extensive park system, featuring over 2,700 acres of park land with over 40 active parks, playgrounds, recreation centers, swimming pools, sports facilities, a golf course and more. There is something for all ages and ability in Gainesville Parks. The Department also presents many exceptional events including Downtown Festival and Art Show, Cane Boil at Morningside Nature Center, Thomas Center Galleries Exhibitions, Hoggetown Medieval Faire, Downtown Countdown New Year's Eve Celebration, Farm and Forest Festival, "Free Fridays" Concert Series and Jest Fest!.

Hoggetowne Medieval Faire

Spring Native Plant Sale

“Go Native” at the Spring 2014 Native Plant Sale, held April 4, 2015 at Morningside Nature Center, features thousands of beautiful native shrubs, trees, wildflowers, ferns, grasses, and vines grown at area nurseries. An exclusive member's sale is on Friday, April 3, and is open to members of the Friends of Nature Parks (FNP) and Paynes Prairie chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society (FNPS) only.
