Description:

The Museum of Florida History in downtown Tallahassee, Florida focuses on the unique heritage of the Sunshine State. The official state history Museum of Florida, it is housed in the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Resources. Through exhibits, educational programs, research, and its collections, the Museum showcases Florida's development and the roles different Floridians have played in state, national and international events. The permanent exhibits focus on the social and cultural history of the state and range from prehistoric Florida through the 20th century.  Highlights include the skeleton of a mastodon, a life-size diorama of early Floridians on the St. Johns River, authentic Spanish gold and silver coins, a Civil War campsite, a Tin Can Camper, the recreated front portion of a Florida steamboat, and original artifacts from World War II. A changing exhibit highlights significant cultural and historical aspects of Florida.
