Description:

The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is 110,000 acres of pristine mangrove forests, uplands and protected waters on the western edge of the Everglades. Where rivers and streams meet the sea, a unique habitat is formed. A myriad of wildlife, including 150 species of birds and many threatened and endangered animals, thrive in the estuarine environment and surrounding upland hammocks and scrub found within the Reserve. The reserve operates an Environmental Learning Center for the public that features aquariums, interactive exhibits, children's exhibits, marine touch tank, live animals, nature trails with observation platforms over Henderson Creek, guided kayak trips, art gallery, lunch and evening lecture series, gift shop, picnic areas, special events and more. Drawing in Graphite and Colored Pencil

Join renown Lee Hammond, Rookery Bay Reserve’s Artist in Residence, for an art program this summer and explore the magic of drawing and painting. Hammond has been a professional artist and art instructor for more than 30 years. She has published more than 35 art instruction books. Learn more about her amazing talent here. On Tuesday’s, Lee will teach drawing in graphite and colored pencil. You will learn a variety of techniques, and learn to draw all subject matter. Each student will work on their own project, and receive one on one instruction and guidance from Lee. National Estuaries Day Celebration

September 24, 2016
Rookery Bay Reserve’s daylong event includes staff-narrated boat tours of the estuary, introductory 30-minute kayaking trips, paddle boarding on Henderson Creek, marine critter touch tank and other live animal presentations. There will be games and crafts for children, as well as behind-the-scenes tours of the science labs, films, food for purchase and more. Admission to the event is free, and tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Art Gallery Exhibition and Reception

The Friends of Rookery Bay and the United Arts Council of Collier County present the exhibition, Summer II: Water, from September 24 through November 9. Enjoy works by local artists Muffy Clark Gill, Lynda Fay Braun, and John Brady. The Opening Reception will feature wine and light hors d’oeuvres. Guardian Anglers Charity Fishing Tournament

Friends of Rookery Bay and Coastal Conservation Association, Florida team up to host the third annual all-release charity tournament in Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve waters targeting snook, redfish and trout.
