The Paintings of Mellencamp at the Museum of Art-DeLand

The Paintings of John Mellencamp will open to the public at The Museum of Art - DeLand at 100 N. Woodland Blvd. in downtown DeLand on Friday, October 10, 2014. The exhibition will feature some 40 oil and mixed media paintings, which will remain on view at the Museum until December 28, 2014.
Inspired largely by German Expressionists Max Beckmann and Otto Dix, and in keeping with his award-winning music, John Mellencamp's work is personal and distinctive. He trained at the Art Students League in New York with David Leffel and later with Jan Royce in Indianapolis. While his subject matter is often autobiographical, he uses considerable sk
ll as a painter to express his strong socio-political point of view. There is a $5 admission fee for entrance into the Museum of Art-DeLand.
Florida history and folk culture come ALIVE as we relive pioneer times through demonstrations of backwoods life-ways, early industry and trades, folk and domestic arts, and the dynamic cultural mix of people who have lived and settled throughout Central Florida.
Also called the "Barberville" Jamboree and one of the best-known and longest-lived heritage festivals in Florida, featuring:

The theme planned for 2014 is Disney's "Frozen." Designer decorations from around the world will adorn the Mansion and the School House. Visitors will be guided through the 1st and second floors of the home by a knowledgeable tour guide, or maybe even one of the owners, as holiday music from the baby grand player piano wafts in the background. These enchanting tours lead guests through the first two floors which include the 3 main bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and the secret master closet while being fed the history of the mansion, details of the decorations as well as relating the inspiring story of the current owners extensive restorat
on. Just when you think you have seen it all you are then treated to a visit into the original schoolhouse which has since been converted to a Zen like cottage featuring a soaring 15 ft ceiling decorated with holiday regalia.
Magical and awe inspiring are the best words to describe the estate and tour. Christmas tours will start on November 15th and continue until January 15th. All tours must be booked in advance, so make sure to check for availability. The cost for the tour is $25+tax and will last approximately one hour.
