Description:

Enter the enchanted, tropical world of the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens, a relaxing, entertaining and educational experience for the entire family. You'll discover a world of animals from around the world within this tropical park nestled in the heart of Florida. Stroll along shaded, winding boardwalks and paths as you see playful lemurs, search for the elusive cheetah, appreciate the beauty of the hyacinth macaw and listen to the song of the kookaburra. Spend some time watching our BIG boys play, Jahi & PJ our two one-horned Indian rhinoceros. Enjoy the Zoo's majestic giraffes Emba and Rafiki. Or dare to meet some of the world's most venomous reptiles and non-venomous snakes, lizards and frogs in the Herpetarium. Feed pygmy goats, a pig, llama, alpaca and other domestic animals in the Barnyard Buddies Childrens Zoo. Don't miss the native wildlife that resides in the lush, tropical setting of the Zoo. Bring your swimsuit and flip-flops and jump in for water fun at the Wharton-Smith Tropical Splash Ground to cool off. Afterwards, take a peek at the endangered Amur leopards, the slow sloth, and watch the siamangs, king vultures and cougar enjoy habitats to swing, fly and relax. The Butterfly Sensory Garden incorporates touch, look, listen and smell stations to show how insect senses differ from those of humans in addition to the many plant varieties featured to attract and support all stages of the butterfly. Take a ride on Champ the Train or a spin on the Animal Carousel. Among the most popular programs is the up-close and personal Animal Encounters on weekends and holidays, in which docents educate visitors about the characteristics of animals from alligators to hedgehogs to snakes. Other popular weekend programs include bird training and feeding programs for felines and primates. For a small fee, get up-close to the rhinos or feed the giraffes! With something for everyone, the adventures are endless!
