Tate's Hell State Forest, High Bluff Hiking Trail
The High Bluff Hiking Trail is 4 miles in length and features the coastal scrub habitat that is unique to the Gulf coastline of the panhandle. The coastal scrub habitat exists on ancient sand dunes that have been taken over by plants, small oaks and woody scrubs, and isolated groups of sand pines. The trail atop tall sand dunes provides unique vistas of the forest & Gulf .The hiking trail also leads through the flatwoods habitiat. These areas are at lower elevations characterized by greater density of palmettos, and slash and longleaf pine overstory. The area has great wildlife viewing including being an active stop for migratory birds.
