Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail SEGMENT 23: TOMOKA / PELLI

Here's another segment rich in history, ecology and scenic beauty. Paddlers can enjoy scenes that have changed little since Timucuan Indians plied these estuarine and riverine systems in their dugout canoes. Five outstanding state parks are within easy reach, along with Florida's tallest lighthouse at Ponce de Leon Inlet. Other points of interest include the Volusia County Marine Science Center, Marineland, and the Washington Oaks Gardens. The route continues to be the Intracoastal Waterway, although it narrows and widens at different points as it utilizes the Halifax and Matanzas rivers. Camping is on both natural and man-made spoil islands.
