Canal Street Historic Downtown District, New Smyrna Beach
The Canal Street Historic District blends small-town charm with good, old fashioned service. The downtown stores and businesses offer a wide range of products, services, specialty gifts, art and antiques. The Canal Street Historic District is also the town's cultural hub. It features art galleries, cultural attractions and the award winning New Smyrna Museum of History. On the first Saturday of every month the Canal Street Historic Downtown District area hosts the Gallery Walk on Canal and Douglas Streets in conjunction with Atlantic Center for the Arts Harris House, The Clay Gallery, Mosquito Mud Pottery Gallery and Arts on Douglas Gallery from 4 to 8 PM. On the second Saturday of every month Canal Street Historic District cosponsors with the East Coast Cruisers the Cruise Night on Canal Street beginning at 4pm and ending at 8pm. Come and see the antique and muscle cars. There is food and entertainment for the family. Each year we sponsor special theme events in conjunction with the first weekend of the month and our Saturday Gallery Walk on Canal and Douglas Street Series of Events. We have three special events this year beginning with A Big Band Concert on Sunday September 28th at 2PM at the Brannon Center, Riverside Park, NSB, FL during the City's popular Jazz Festival. The second event is on Friday October 3rd when we will have our Oktoberfest event with live theme music and a Beer and Wine Garden with CSHD's Concession. On the next day, Saturday the 4th of October, Chalk it Up, a Street Art Event will be held from 10 to 4pm. The third event is our Mardi Gras Celebration on February 7th beginning with a Dog Parade at 2 PM and following with an American Jazz Band beginning at 4PM with a Beer and Wine Garden with the CSHD Concession. This is the kick off of a series of Mardi Gras theme events in New Smyrna Beach, FL in February 2009. The Mardi Gras Events end with the Fat Tuesday Parade on Flagler Avenue and celebration near the beach in New Smyrna Beach on Feb 24th.
