Michael Allen won the 2009 Senior PGA Championship in his first start in 50-and-over play, a rare feat on the Champions Tour.

Once you do that, the wins are supposed to come in bunches, right?

Well, golf being golf, it didn’t quite work out that way for Allen. It would be nearly three full years before he won again – but when he finally did, it was in Florida.

Allen won in April at the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am of Tampa Bay at TPC Tampa Bay, one of the most respected courses on the Champions Tour.

“It's very nice to get on 18 and finally go, 'Man, I got them all,’” Allen said.

Allen had a five-shot lead entering the final round, which tied a tournament record. He said that Fuzzy Zoeller’s advice was to “play like he was broke,” which he did with a final-round 68.
