Watch the Pros' Shootout, Then Have Your Own in Naples

By: Tim McDonald

Here's a great December golf getaway: Take in the Shark Shootout Dec. 7-11 at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, then hang around for a few days and enjoy what should be perfect Florida weather and some of the most scenic courses in the state.

The popular Shootout – officially, it's now known as the Franklin Templeton Shootout – has become a staple both in Naples and on television. The Golf Channel will televise the action Friday, and NBC will take over on the weekend.
Greg Norman has been the host from the start, of course, and he's bringing in some young talent for this year's 12-man field. They include colorful Rickie Fowler, paired with heart-throb Camilo Villegas, PGA champion Keegan Bradley and World No. 5 Steve Stricker.
In all, the 12 players in the field have won 15 titles this year. The field also includes six major championship winners and a pair of Hall of Famers.
Now, for the really fun part: Naples has more golf courses per square mile than anywhere in the world, and I've played most of them. Here's my list of courses I would recommend for a short stay:
- Tiburon, both Gold and Black courses
